SALMON RUN MALL TO HOST FIRST ANNUAL “COMMUNITY TALKS” EVENT, SPONSORED BY PIVOT AND AND ALLIANCE FOR BETTER COMMUNITIES

(WATERTOWN, NY) – Pivot, a county-wide non-profit agency dedicated to the prevention of substance abuse misuse and abuse and the promotion of the health and wellness of all community members, along with the Alliance for Better Communities, will host their first annual Community Talks event at Salmon Run Mall on Saturday, October 5th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The goal of the Community Talks event is to inspire a call to action among parents and youth to engage in open dialogue about growing challenges youth face in the frequently changing, fast-paced environments they live in and how these challenges impact their decision-making ability regarding healthy lifestyle choices and substance use.  The event will host experts who will discuss the truth about underage drinking, the untold dangers of vaping and effects of today’s marijuana on youth.

Leading up to the Community Talks event will be an art competition for Jefferson County youth in grades K – 12.  Participating youth are eligible to win prizes such as a $500 award, an Apple iPad, Fitbit, mountain bike, Polaroid Point-and-Shoot camera, $100 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card, $100 Regal gift card, $50 Paint It Pottery gift card, art set and more!  ALL Jefferson County students in grades K – 12 are invited and encouraged to participate!

  • Students in grades K – 3 will be provided a color page to submit.
  • Students in grades 4 – 12 are invited to submit original art work.

Winners for grades K – 3 will be selected by drawing names.  Judging for grades 4 – 12 will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and winners will be announced immediately after.  A parent or guardian must be available to sign for prizes.
